Advanced Statistical Modeling
A two-part medical example about binary outcomes, p-values, and clustered data.
Logistic and Mixed-Effects Regression
This lesson follows the same fictional medical study from an ordinary logistic regression to a mixed-effects logistic regression. The outcome is whether a patient recovered within 30 days, and patients are grouped within clinics.
1. Logistic Regression and p-values
Fit a logistic regression, translate log-odds into odds ratios and probabilities, and interpret p-values without treating them as automatic decisions about clinical importance.
Prerequisites: basic algebra and introductory R.
2. Mixed-Effects Logistic Regression
Account for patients being grouped within clinics, interpret a random intercept, and compare the result with the ordinary logistic model.
Prerequisites: 1. Logistic Regression and p-values.
